Persephone’s Raven by Mara Amberly ~ A Cursed All Hallows’ Eve Author Spotlight Interview

Blurb:

I always believed mythology to be stories from the past, but what if they’re prophecies… and now they’re coming true?

I didn’t want to take my little sister trick-or-treating on Halloween night, but I’m glad I did.

I’m surprised to meet a handsome stranger with an otherworldly air in the shadows. At first he intimidates me, but when our paths cross again at a masquerade party, I have the chance to get to know him. I find him captivating, but I doubt his claims that his name is Hades—the name belonging to the Greek God of the Underworld. After all, what are the chances it’s his real name, God or not, when my name is Persephone—the same as Hades’ mythological queen?

What’s he going to say next? That he’s the real Greek God of the Underworld? That we’re destined to be together? It seems more likely he’s trying to win me over, and yet, I want to get to know him better. I’m drawn to him more than other men; the difference is like night and day.

I’ll give him a chance, but I don’t believe he’s the real Hades or that we have a special destiny. Of course, I’ve been known to be wrong.

Excerpt:

“So what do I call you?” I asked him, wondering if I should be using ‘Your Majesty’ or a term of respect like that.

“I told you,” he said. “My name is Hades.”

“Then I will call you that,” I promised him.

The room was steeped in luxury, but his attention wasn’t on it; it was on me. In my normal, everyday life I might’ve questioned why, but in this land and in my dream, I merely took it as a compliment. We walked on through his castle, and when we reached another room, which seemed a more relaxed reception room, we sat down together at a wooden table.

It wasn’t lost on me that the castle was exceptionally well-kept, with tapestries decorating its walls, ornate chandeliers, and many beautiful relics and paintings from all over the world. It made me wonder when he had gathered them, if he’d done so himself, but my instincts told me he had. I could sense his touch on everything in our surroundings, even the castle itself. It truly felt like his realm.

“What are you thinking about?” he asked me, as he leaned forward over the table, steepling his fingers beneath his chin.

I shook my head, because it was hard to explain. “I’m just experiencing this—your castle, the world it’s in, Hades.”

His name felt strange as I spoke it, as though it held more power here than in the mortal world. I finally understood then that speaking his name had meaning, and there were many who might not have dared to speak it at all.

“This is the underworld,” he told me, as he regarded me with interest.

“I know,” I answered softly. Prior to meeting him, it had merely been a concept, but now I knew it was real, and I was here for a time. I glanced out the window. It was stained glass, and patterned in blues and greens, but I could tell that the day was growing darker outside. It seemed night was swiftly approaching.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

Hello and welcome, readers! We have Mara Amberly here with us today. Mara, thanks for visiting us.
How long have you been a writer and how did you come to writing?
One of my majors was in journalism at university (and I later studied a Masters in editing and publishing), and it improved my writing quality and speed. Around fifteen years ago, I got into text-based online roleplaying games, including freeform and system games. I GM’d games over the years: mainly 7th Sea and Serenity, but also other games like Legend of the Five Rings and Stargate. I think that time spent GMing and playing in games built up and improved my fiction-writing skills. I wrote my first book in 2015, and my first novel in 2016.
Tell us about your title featured in: A Cursed All Hallows’ Eve
‘Persephone’s Raven’ is a clean paranormal romance story mainly set during Halloween. It tells the story of Persephone, a student who lives at home with her family. She had party plans, but they were canceled and she was asked to take her younger sister, Deanna, trick or treating. While they’re out, she learns that someone might have seen a ghost in the window of a deserted house up the street, and she and Deanna check it out. The events of the evening lead her to meet a man who calls himself Hades.
How did you come up with the storyline?
I had the idea of writing a romantic story about a god and a human woman. I was originally going to make it a darker story than it is, but as it took form, it came out lighter. I had ideas in mind before I started, but I made it up as I went along. I’d best define myself as a plantser – kind of halfway between a planner and a pantser. I usually plot out a framework for longer stories and plan out early chapters in detail, but this was a shorter story at around 10k and I didn’t need to plan that much.
What inspires you to write?
I feel compelled to write and put stories out there. Ideas just come together in my head, but I’m very much a visual person, so I’ll usually create or buy a cover before I’ve even written a story. It’s part of the process for me. Sometimes images inspire me to write, but usually ideas do. I watch a lot of shows (mostly sci-fi) and the genre I’ve read most is epic fantasy. I feel like things I’ve really enjoyed inspire me to want to create things of my own that are (hopefully) equally epic.
Tell us about your other books:
I’m currently focusing on my A Paradox of Time series, which is time travel sci-fi. It’s probably my favourite series to write so far. I’ve written books 1 and 2, I have the prequel novella to write next (in that series), and I have covers created and bought up as far as Book 4 already. I’m just planning to keep writing books in that series for as long as   I feel inspired to.
I’m also planning a new sci-fi vigilante series called Shadowstar Vigilantes. I have the first book (Red Astrea) on pre-order now and I’ve bought the cover for the second book (Octavia Rising) already.
I’m planning to write another book in my Sisters of Destiny series. It’s epic fantasy, and I currently have books 1 and 2 out.
I have other book plans too, but I’m just going to focus on these ones for the time being, because you can’t write everything at once.
Where can readers find you?

Their Dragon Mate by Elle Boon ~ A Cursed All Hallows’ Eve Author Spotlight Interview

Blurb:

She’s always taken the path less traveled. They’ve always
barreled through roadblocks. Can they find a way to be together without losing
themselves?

Lula’s a Fierce Dragon… She’s given bits of
herself to others when she was sure she had no mate of her own, even knowing it
would cost her life at some point.

Atika and Abyle, Twins with A Purpose… They
lived to protect their clan, until their brother took over as alpha. Just as
they think they can relax, they meet their truemate. A feisty dragon female who
runs from them.

The Triad Bond… Their beast won’t be denied,
but finding their little dragon proves harder than they’d anticipated. However,
once they bond with her, there’s no denying the love they share. What they
didn’t foresee was a stranger from Lula’s past coming for her and her mother.

Will the trio have a chance at happily ever after, or will
the Dragon King who lost his greatest treasures demand back, or kill who stands
in his way?

Get ready for an exciting return of some of your favorite
characters in this stand-alone…sort of “wink” story. You just might hear from
the Fey Queen, the bad boy alpha Kellen, and what would a reunionish story be
without #dontlookdown aka Creed.

Excerpt:

“Jenna, you realize I’m the alpha here, don’t you?”

“You realize you’re out-femaled here, don’t you?” Jenna
retorted.

“Both of you, shut it before I set your asses on fire,” Lula
growled. “Goddess, I just sounded like a wolfie.”

“That’s unacceptable. Be like a bear. We rumble.” Atika slid
next to her, his nose tickling her ear.

“Beary, I will—” her words died in her throat as Abyle moved
in on her other side.

“Boys, the three of you won’t fit through the door…or you
will, my bad.” Jenna laughed.

“What the flying monkey asses did you do?” Kellen roared, and
this time the liquor bottles shattered.

“Kellen Motherfucking Styles, I’m not cleaning up that
mess,” Laikyn yelled.

“Wolfies, stop yelling. Aw, look at my little wolfie
babies.” Lula hurried over to the little prison Laikyn had her sons corralled
in. “What kind of thing is this, and what did they do to be put in confinement?
Surely they can get out for good behavior?”

Lyric, the little female she loved like a crazy sister,
laughed from behind her. “It’s called a playgate, only it’s been shifterfied.
You know, for shifter babes.”

“I’m assuming that is a good thing?” Lula bent down to pick
up a little boy in each arm. The sound of two bears moaning made her blush.

“Son-of-a-fucking-dragonlovingbear,” Abyle growled.

“Down, boys.” Jenna patted Abyle, her touch like a mother
soothing a child.

“Um, Jenna, my dragon don’t like you touching them.”

Power flooded the room moments before two men, each holding
a little girl, entered.

“For fucks sake. What did I say about that shit?” Kellen
muttered.

“Temper temper, wolf.”

“Damien, didn’t I say to give me ten minutes?” Jenna asked.

“Your two crotch goblins wouldn’t wait.”

They all turned at the booming voice. Lula grinned, loving
the batshit crazy male, son of Satan and an angel.

“Creed, you probably shouldn’t refer to these two little
angels as crotch goblins.”

Creed pointed at Jenna. “That’s what she calls them.”

Jenna had a finger over her lips making a zipping motion. “I
mean, they kinda gobbled their way out of my vajayjay, and they gobble
everything they get their mouths on. Goddess, don’t glare at me with such censure
on your faces or no fucky fucky for you two.”

“Please make her stop talking, Damien, or you, Lucas.
Surely, one of you tops her,” Kellen growled while Jenna laughed.

“Keep on chuckling, but you’re leaking, so who gets the last
laugh?” Creed folded his arms with a nod.

“Dammit. See, what you’ve done? You brought them, and my
boobs wake up.” She stomped over, grabbing one of the little girls with a snarl,
smiling down at the baby.

“You’re not gonna whip a boob out and feed them here are
you?” Xan asked.

“Enough,” Lula roared. “This is not a circus show. Jenna,
take your babies and your boobs, and I don’t mean your mates, though they can
be boobs too, home to feed. Kellen, I’ll need the use of your office for only a
moment then I’ll take my err, mates to be, maybe, off somewhere else. Everyone
who is not a bear and or a dragon, exit the office. And that means everyone who
is not Lula, Atika or Abyle, get the fuck out of here. Now, please.” She tacked
the last bit on, so she didn’t hurt anyone’s feelings.

“Damn, our little dragon grew some balls. I like it.” Laikyn
said. She and Lyric high-fived each other as they turned from the entryway.

“Yeah, well, don’t take any notes from her. You can’t shift
into a huge-ass dragon and burn a forest down,” Kellen muttered before scooping
up his boys.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

Hello and welcome, readers! We have Elle Boon here with
us today. Elle, thanks for visiting us.

How long have you been a writer and how did you come to writing?

Hi, and thank you so much for having me here. I’ve been writing for just over five years, or rather published for five years. In all actuality, I’ve only been writing for a little over six years though, which might seem crazy, but it’s true.

Tell us about your title featured in A Cursed All Hallows’ Eve:

A Cursed All Hallows’ Eve: Their Dragon Mate is the story of my crazy dragon Lula who if you’re a reader of mine, you’ve met throughout my Iron Wolves and my Mystic Wolves series. She’s kinda popped in as a little side character who has helped the other characters out of situations. She’s always kinda been this larger than life, funny heroine who had wanted to write a story about but hadn’t found the right time to do so. About a year ago I was writing a story with a bear and one of my Mystic Wolves girls and Lula popped in and did a little thing (she’s a huge pink dragon and thought she’d never find a mate since she and her mama had been exiled from their realm before Lula had been born) so she gives little bits of herself to save her friends. Well, as she helps the latest heroine, she come face-to-face with not one, but two bears who set her world a spinning. I had no clue that was coming because I’m a punster when I write. So, I sat back and thought, holy shite, how am I gonna write a menage for Lula? Well, I sort of thought I’d do a chapter a month in my newsletter, but then life interrupted and then bam, this anthology came, and Their Dragon Mate flowed.

Lula and her guys are so perfect because she’s a pink dragon she needed more than your average shifter, she needed two bears who were also more than just grizzly bears. Of course, I’ll let you read to find out exactly what I’m talking about, but trust me, I made them…extra “wink.

How did you come up with the storyline?

The story started when I finished writing Atlas’s Forbidden Mate in my Mystic Wolves series. However, I wrote this one as a stand-alone so that new to me readers wouldn’t feel as though they were lost.

What inspires you to write?

I find inspiration in just about everything around me. For instance, my girlfriend’s dad who has passed away was a very funny and unique man. One day while we were parked next to one another waiting for our kids to get out of school I rolled down my window to chat with him as he sat in her van and heard him say “Tammy, this van is gotdamn offensive to my nose.” I took that little bit of conversation and put it in a story. I take ordinary things or parts of conversations, twist them, turn them, and make them more.

Tell us about your other books:

I have over 40 other titles ranging from shifters, gods and goddesses, badass MC alphas, Navy SEALs, and contemporary. I love them all because they are all at the heart romance with the story revolving around the H/H. I always seem to have a conflict outside of the romance instead of the H/H. So, not like one of the soap opera novels LOL and you are always guaranteed a happily ever after with each one of my stories, never a cliffy or serial. And while I strive to write each title as a stand-alone, I do think once you are on say book 6 or 7 in a series, you will find they read better in order LOL.

My first book in most of my series are either FREE or set at $.99 so that readers can try one of my stories and see if they like my work and hopefully fall in love with my worlds. I do also tend to cross my paranormal people over into each other’s worlds, because I can LOL. But again, you can totally read the Iron Wolves without having to read the Mystic first and vice versa.

She loves where this new journey has taken her and has no plans on stopping. Her biggest hope is that after readers have read one of her stories, they fall in love with her characters as much as she has. She loves creating new worlds and has more just waiting to be written. In the Cards by Ariel Dawn ~ A Cursed All Hallows’ Eve Author Spotlight Interview

Blurb:

A family curse, a powerful warlock bound by love, and a woman bewitched. Psychic Ember Stone has been dreaming of a blue-eyed, dark-haired man for as long as she can remember. When a man named Derek shows up as her next client, she’s shocked to see he resembles the man in her dreams. Who is Derek, and why does she feel drawn to him? As secrets emerge and answers come to light, Ember’s feelings for Derek intensify. But on Halloween, a centuries-old curse will change everything, requiring a sacrifice neither of them can bear. Follow Ember, Derek, and their strange connection through the ages as they navigate the haunting secrets that will either bring them together or tear them apart.

Excerpt:

“Do you always dress like you’re going to a funeral?” She took a sip of the warm apple wine and gestured to his black slacks.
“Only when I’m trying to be brooding and mysterious.”
Perhaps the brooding part was missing, but Ember couldn’t deny he had the mysterious part down pretty well. He smiled, a perfect white-toothed smile and Ember could feel her insides flush with warmth. She wasn’t sure if it was the wine, his presence, or a combination of the two.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

Hello and welcome, readers! We have Ariel Dawn here with us today. Ariel Dawn, thanks for visiting us.
How long have you been a writer and how did you come to writing?
I have been writing stories all my life honestly, but this year I started sharing them with the world. I became a published author officially in April, with my short story Faded, which was part of a charity anthology to help fund research for breast cancer. Fated Souls, by The New Romance Café.

Tell us about your title featured in: A Cursed All Hallows’ Eve
I wrote In The Cards during the first 8 weeks of quarantine. I read tarot, and have an interest in the paranormal and magic, or manifestation.  As someone who reads cards, I thought it would be fun to play into the idea of that kind of “real magic”.  The idea that some people are linked, through destiny or fate or even reincarnation was something that has always appealed to me, and that’s what In The Cards is about—connection. The magic of love, of soulmates.
How did you come up with the storyline?
I answered a call to participation for A Cursed Halloween because the theme just was perfect for me—curses, and Halloween.  Halloween IS my Christmas.  I knew I wanted the tarot cards to play a factor, and I knew I wanted there to be an air of mystery and spookiness surrounding the cards, and the connection felt between the psychic, and the man she reads for.  I’d often seen writing prompts that list a few things, that are so vastly different and the prompt is to make all of the things that don’t belong, belong.  That’s essentially how I came up with the rest of the story—I thought about all the things I wanted to convey, no matter how “out of place” it might be. Psychics, warlocks, curses, wine, the 1920s, magic, and love. All of it is the fabric that makes up In The Cards.
What inspires you to write?
I love romance, especially paranormal romance. I’m a daydreamer and an incurable hopeless romantic. Honestly, I find inspiration everywhere—photographs, songs, the couple in the coffee shop. I’m always writing a story, even if it does not make it to paper.
Tell us about your other books:
I started with In The Cards, but there will be more stories from that universe. When I was writing In The Cards, there seemed to be one character, Ava Crowley who would not relent in my mind, and so I wrote her story. I’m hoping to release it soon, hopefully before the New Year. I have plans for several books, that take place in the spooky town of Chester.
I’ve also got several projects lined up for the next 2 years, and I intend on spreading my wings and writing fantasy, contemporary and YA as well as paranormal romance. In The Cards is only the beginning!
Where can readers find you? (links to your social media, website, etc.):
About the Author:
I grew up an avid reader and daydreamer. As a creative soul, I enjoy many forms of expression aside from writing. I am a photographer, an artist, a cosplayer, a gamer, a foodie and a self-professed geek. When I’m not at a convention in cosplay, writing love stories, or editing photos; I can often be found reading with a cup of tea, running my Instagram Wrong Turn Romance, entertaining friends and family with great food, and playing video games or board games with my retro gamer husband.
